Becoming a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. The past 7 years of being in the bond have been tremendous and I have had the opportunity to learn from so many great brothers, such as the late Jonathan P. Hicks, Oliver W. Parson and George Rodriguez. Kappa has meant so much to me and I couldn’t have asked for a better chapter to join. New York Alumni is special because it’s comprised of so many phenomenal brothers who are doing extraordinary things every day. The brothers of New York Alumni are the epitome of what it means to achieve in every field of human endeavor. But other than the fact that I’ve had the opportunity to fellowship and work with the brothers of this chapter over the years, I can honestly say having the platform to share the gospel of Jesus Christ has been most rewarding.
A little over a year now, NYA has been holding a prayer call each and every Tuesday morning at 7 am. The prayer call has given brothers the opportunity to come together not only as Kappa Men, but also and more importantly as brothers in Christ. Each Tuesday we are able to learn more and more about God as well as testify to each other how good the Lord has been to us. After sharing a brief daily devotional, brothers have the opportunity to lift up any prayer requests they may have in their hearts. On a weekly basis, we ask God for healing, deliverance, peace, joy, and hope. The feedback from holding the prayer call has been great. It doesn’t matter if there are two brothers on the call or 15 brothers on the call, each time we feel God’s presence.
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated was founded on Christian principles. The founders of our fraternity were God-fearing men and they knew that without the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives, we are lost. I’m so glad to know that the founders knew Jesus and had a personal relationship with him. It’s my hope that those brothers who don’t know Jesus might one day ask the question “What must I do to be saved?” With God’s help, I will continue to do my part to share the gospel that will never lose its truth. – Andrew Johnson
